3-Nitrobenzoic acid (CAS: 121-92-6) is an important fine chemical intermediate. Its molecular structure contains two reactive functional groups – a nitro group and a carboxyl group – enabling it to participate in various organic synthesis reactions to produce downstream products in pharmaceuticals, dyes, new materials, and more.

1. Pharmaceutical Intermediates

3-Nitrobenzoic acid is one of the intermediates used in the synthesis of certain diagnostic drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Synthesis of diagnostic drugs: In the synthesis routes of X-ray contrast agents (such as iopanoic acid, acetrizoic acid, etc.), 3-Nitrobenzoic acid can be used as a starting material or a key intermediate.

API synthesis: Downstream derivatives of 3-nitrobenzoic acid can be used in the preparation of certain kinase inhibitor drugs. For example, methyl 3-nitrobenzoate is one of the intermediates that can be linked to the synthesis route of nintedanib through multi-step reactions.

Note: The above descriptions are objective applications of a chemical intermediate in downstream pharmaceutical synthesis. They do not imply that our company directly produces or sells any drugs, nor do they provide any guarantee of drug efficacy.

2. Dyes and Photographic Materials

3-Nitrobenzoic acid can be used in the synthesis of certain functional dyes and photographic materials.

In azo dyes, anthraquinone dyes, and other products, derivatives of 3-Nitrobenzoic acid  can serve as components of chromophores or auxochromes.

In the photographic materials industry, it can be used as a raw material in the synthesis of color couplers for color films, photosensitive dyes, etc.

3. New Materials

In recent years, 3-nitrobenzoic acid has gained attention in functional materials research as an organic ligand.

Its carboxyl group can coordinate with metal ions to construct metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which have potential applications in gas adsorption, catalysis, sensing, etc.

By assembling with other functional molecules, supramolecular materials with specific optical properties can be prepared.

4. Analytical Chemistry Reagent

3-Nitrobenzoic acid can be used as a standard substance in organic analysis. Under laboratory conditions, it can also be used for the precipitation, separation, and determination of certain metal ions or alkaloids.

5. Other Fine Chemical Fields

3-Nitrobenzoic acid can also be used in the production of certain pesticide intermediates, optical filters, metal surface treatment aids, etc., serving a wider range of chemical industry chains.
